– 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar or red wine (for a richer flavor)

– 1/4 cup brown sugar

– 2 tablespoons tomato paste

– 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

– 2 bay leaves

– Fresh thyme sprigs
